Guinea-Bissau beat Nigeria 3-0 to strengthen Africa Cup of Nations qualifying bid

Guinea-Bissau moved top of Group 9 in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers after a convincing 3-0 victory over Nigeria in the second round of matches.

Frankolino Dego, Mohamed Salah’s team-mate at Trabzonspor, opened the scoring for Guinea-Bissau after 15 minutes.

Mama Balde doubled the advantage in the 66th minute before Alvaro Djalo completed the win with the third goal in the third minute of stoppage time.

The result leaves Guinea-Bissau with six points from their opening two matches and at the summit of the group.

Nigeria are second on three points, while Tanzania and Madagascar occupy third and fourth place respectively, with one point each.

Tanzania drew 1-1 with Madagascar in the other Group 9 fixture.

Only one team will qualify from the group because Tanzania are among the countries hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will stage the tournament from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
