Guinea, while vying to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), is reportedly falling short of meeting the specifications outlined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). According to Thierno Saidou Diakité, a Guinean sports columnist and secretary general of the Guinean Motor Sports Federation, the country currently lacks the required four competition sites meeting international standards. With only the September 28 stadium in Conakry and the Nongo stadium in progress, Guinea is advised to focus on the 2017 CAN Juniors. Diakité suggests a multi-sectoral organizing committee to examine the application in detail and develop a roadmap. He emphasizes the need for infrastructure development, including road rehabilitation, airport upgrades, and facility renovations.
