Pep Guardiola declined to comment on Manchester City’s reported pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, telling reporters he “has nothing to say” when asked about the January move.
The silence comes amid widespread reports that City have reached an agreement in principle to sign the 25-year-old centre-back, with personal terms reportedly already in place.
The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days, marking one of the biggest transfers of the winter window.
Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Guehi represents one of England’s top defensive talents, having risen through the Chelsea academy and establishing himself as Crystal Palace’s captain.
Liverpool, who were linked to him in the past, reportedly have no plans to make a move this winter.
Guehi will not feature for Palace against Sunderland, with manager Oliver Glasner confirming the club is ready to let him depart ahead of his contract’s expiry in the summer.
Manchester City have been negotiating to lower Palace’s original £35 million asking price, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting the agreed fee is around £20 million – a significant reduction compared to the premium Liverpool paid in the summer.
The move would bolster Guardiola’s injury-hit defence, following City’s £62.5 million signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth earlier in the window.
Guehi’s aerial ability, tactical intelligence, and leadership make him a natural fit for City’s backline, adding depth and reliability as they chase Premier League leaders Arsenal.
