Guardiola praises Jeremy Doku’s impact at Man City

Pep Guardiola could not resist a joke when asked what lies behind Jeremy Doku’s brilliant form for Manchester City this season.

“It’s always the manager’s credit (laughs). When the players play well, it’s thanks to the manager; when they play poorly, it’s because of them!” he quipped, drawing laughter before switching to a more serious tone.

Guardiola then underlined how impressed he is with the Belgian winger’s development and growing maturity in the final third. “I am so happy that he is taking a step forward and realizes that a winger must score and have an impact, rather than just beating players one-on-one. Jeremy has been magnificent this season,” he said. The City boss clearly believes Doku is evolving from an exciting dribbler into a decisive match-winner.

Doku’s numbers back that up, with the 23-year-old registering 4 goals and 5 assists in 26 Premier League appearances so far in this campaign. His end product has added another dangerous dimension to Manchester City’s attack as they chase more silverware under Guardiola.
