Greuther Furth sign Egyptian midfielder Omar Abdulmajid

Greuther Furth have signed Egyptian midfielder Omar Abdulmajid on a two-year contract, with the German club holding an option to extend the agreement for a further season.

The 20-year-old impressed during a series of pre-season friendlies and has now secured a permanent deal after featuring for Greuther Furth against Hoffenheim, Paris FC and Freiburg.

Abdulmajid was born in Hamburg and had regularly trained with Hamburger SV’s first team. He was also included in the squad for several of the club’s Bundesliga matches before completing his move to Greuther Furth.

He made his Hamburger SV debut at the age of 16, becoming the youngest player to represent the club at a time when the team was competing in the 2. Bundesliga.

Abdulmajid said he had been made to feel welcome at Greuther Furth from the moment he joined the club on trial.

“The team welcomed me really well, even when I was a trialist, and the working conditions here are excellent, so I am very happy to be joining the club permanently,” he said in a statement published on Greuther Furth’s official website.

“I believe I will continue to develop here and that moving to Greuther Furth is the right step in my career.”

The midfielder played 113 matches across Hamburger SV’s different age groups, scoring 10 goals and providing 16 assists.

His performances in the club’s friendly fixtures gave him the opportunity to convince the coaching staff that he was ready for a permanent contract. Greuther Furth have now made that arrangement official, securing Abdulmajid’s services for the next two years, with the possibility of keeping him for an additional campaign.

The deal represents the next stage of a career that began in Hamburg, where Abdulmajid progressed through the club’s youth system before becoming the youngest player to appear for Hamburger SV. He was involved with the first-team training group and was named in Bundesliga matchday squads on several occasions.

Abdulmajid’s move also marks the continuation of his development in Germany, where he has spent his career to date. Greuther Furth will now provide the setting for the Egyptian midfielder to build on his experience with Hamburger SV and compete for further first-team opportunities.
