Grand Stade Hassan II: Benslimane project reveals precise seating plan

The future Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane will have exactly 114,414 seats, according to new tender documents detailing the stadium’s stands and seating equipment.

The figure is more precise than the capacity of about 115,000 that has generally been associated with the project since it was first presented. Once completed, the venue is expected to become the largest football stadium in the world.

Most of the seats will be available to the general public. The plans specify 98,579 fold-down seats, alongside a range of hospitality, corporate and premium seating areas.

The stadium will include 6,396 hospitality seats, 2,754 places in Skyboxes, 1,992 VIP seats and 359 VVIP places.

Provision has also been made for media organisations. There will be 1,746 seats for observers, as well as 1,574 rotating seats for print journalists and commentators.

The specifications include dedicated spaces for people with reduced mobility and their accompanying guests. Several hundred additional seats will also offer easier access.

The Grand Stade Hassan II is being built in Benslimane, between Casablanca and Rabat, and is one of Morocco’s flagship projects ahead of the 2030 World Cup. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in December 2027. With more than 114,000 seats, the stadium is set to become a major football venue and a central part of Morocco’s preparations for the tournament.

The contract covering the installation of the stands alone is valued at 277.5m Moroccan dirhams. A separate contract worth more than 92m dirhams includes work connected with the stadium’s future hybrid pitch.

The newly released seating details provide a clearer picture of a project that had previously been defined largely by its scale and ambition. The exact breakdown confirms that the venue will combine a vast general-admission section with dedicated facilities for hospitality guests, corporate users, VIPs, media representatives and supporters requiring accessible seating.

The overall capacity also settles much of the uncertainty surrounding the stadium’s size. Although estimates of approximately 115,000 seats had been widely reported, the tender documents set the final planned total at 114,414.

The Grand Stade Hassan II is therefore moving from a headline-making design concept towards a stadium with detailed and measurable specifications. Its location in Benslimane will place it between Morocco’s two major cities, Casablanca and Rabat, while its planned completion in December 2027 leaves it as one of the country’s most significant infrastructure projects before the 2030 World Cup.
