Gonzalo Garcia leaves Real Madrid for Fulham in move worth up to €42m

Real Madrid have announced that Gonzalo Garcia will join Fulham in the Premier League after the two clubs reached an agreement for the transfer of the 20-year-old.

The Spanish club confirmed the move on Monday in a statement published on its official website, bringing to an end Garcia’s 11-season association with Real Madrid.

Garcia joined the club in 2014, aged 10, and progressed through its ranks before becoming part of the first-team set-up. During his time wearing the senior side’s shirt, he helped Real Madrid win the FIFA Club World Cup once and La Liga once.

In its farewell message, Real Madrid said: “Gonzalo Garcia arrived at Real Madrid in 2014, when he was just 10 years old, and became part of the club for 11 seasons.”

The club added: “During his time wearing the first-team shirt, Gonzalo Garcia won one Club World Cup and one La Liga title.”

Real Madrid also praised Garcia’s conduct and commitment during his years at the club.

The statement continued: “Gonzalo Garcia always embodied the values of Real Madrid, who would like to thank the player for his commitment and dedication throughout the years he spent at the club.”

It concluded: “Real Madrid will always be his home, and we wish him and his family every success in this new stage of his life.”

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the agreement includes a guaranteed fee of €40m, with a further €2m available in incentives. Real Madrid have also secured a 30% sell-on clause, meaning they would be entitled to 30% of any future transfer fee received for Garcia.

The Spanish club will additionally have the right to match any future offer for the player should he become available again, giving Real Madrid the opportunity to bring him back to Santiago Bernabeu.

The transfer represents the next stage of Garcia’s career after more than a decade within the Real Madrid system. He arrived at the club as a child in 2014 and remained part of its structure for 11 seasons, eventually making his contribution to the first team and collecting major domestic and international honours.

Fulham’s agreement with Real Madrid takes Garcia to the Premier League, with the London club completing a deal that includes both an initial payment and performance-related additions. Real Madrid’s retained sell-on percentage and matching right also give the Spanish side a continuing interest in the player’s future after his departure.

The move was formally confirmed by Real Madrid through its own channels, with the club using its announcement to recognise Garcia’s long service and wish him well alongside his family as he begins the next phase of his career in England.
