Golden Arrows cruise past Chippa United to reach Carling Knockout quarter-finals

Golden Arrows secured their place in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals with a commanding 4-0 victory over Chippa United in the round of 16 at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Assistant coach Ashley Makhanya addressed the media after overseeing the Durban-based side’s emphatic win, which was built on a strong attacking display and a disciplined performance across the pitch.

Junior Dion, Sabelo Sithole, Nhlanhla Zwane and Jerome Karelse were all on target as Golden Arrows put the tie beyond Chippa United and progressed to the last eight in convincing fashion.

Makhanya highlighted the contribution of the four goalscorers while also praising the overall application shown by the squad during Saturday’s match in Umlazi.

The result gave Golden Arrows a positive start to their Carling Knockout Cup campaign and provided Makhanya with plenty to discuss after the final whistle. His assessment focused not only on the quality of the finishing but also on the commitment and execution delivered by the team throughout the contest.

Makhanya also spoke about working alongside newly appointed head coach Mandla Ncikazi, who has begun his latest role with the club. The assistant coach said the players and technical staff would have plenty to learn from Ncikazi’s pedigree and experience.

Ncikazi is a former Orlando Pirates coach, and his arrival has added a new source of knowledge to the Golden Arrows set-up. Makhanya said that experience would benefit both the squad and the coaching team as they continue working together.

Golden Arrows’ four-goal success means they advance to the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals, while Chippa United’s campaign comes to an end in the round of 16.
