Gold Stars draw level with Asante Kotoko in Ghana Premier League title race

Gold Stars have drawn level with Asante Kotoko at the summit of the Ghana Premier League table following a narrow but crucial victory on Matchday 27, as the race for the title intensified with just a few weeks remaining in the season.

Asante Kotoko, who began the weekend as sole leaders, missed the opportunity to widen the gap at the top after being held to a 1-1 draw by Bechem United at home.

A late penalty from Albert Amoah in the 80th minute spared Kotoko from a potential defeat, but the result allowed their closest rivals to catch up.

Gold Stars, fully aware that anything less than a win could dent their title ambitions, responded with determination.

They claimed a 1-0 victory over Young Apostles, with Alex Aso scoring the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time (45+2).

The win takes the Golden Boys to 47 points, putting them level with Kotoko at the top of the standings.

With just seven rounds remaining, the two clubs are locked in an increasingly tense battle, while several teams remain within striking distance.

Elsewhere, Nations FC remain firmly in the mix after a productive round, sitting two points off the lead with 45.

Medeama SC, Heart of Lions, and Hearts of Oak all have 41 points, while Bechem United follow closely on 40.

The congested top half of the table promises a thrilling run-in to the season’s conclusion.

Samartex enjoyed a solid outing with a 2-0 away win against Legon Cities, continuing their steady climb up the table.

Goals from the visiting side ensured that Legon Cities remain stuck near the bottom, with just 22 points.

In other results, Berekum Chelsea edged Heart of Lions 1-0 in a hard-fought encounter, while Karela United boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over Aduana Stars.

Vision FC and Hearts of Oak played out a 1-1 draw, a result that does little to aid either side’s aspirations for a late surge.
