Godwin Bentil: Ghana striker joins Chateaubriant on free transfer from RC Grasse
Ghanaian centre-forward Godwin Bentil has joined French side Chateaubriant on a free transfer from RC Grasse. The 25-year-old moves into National 1 Group B after leaving the fourth-tier club and will wear the number nine shirt for his new team.
Bentil, born in Accra and standing at 1.85m, arrives as an out-and-out central striker, operating primarily through the middle and favouring his right foot. His switch to Chateaubriant is a permanent move after half a season with Grasse, whom he joined in January 2026.
The forward has built up significant experience across the French pyramid, including spells in Ligue 2 and the Championnat National. During his time in the second tier he made 19 appearances, scoring three goals, while also featuring regularly in National 1 and National 2, where he produced a series of steady scoring returns.
Before his brief stint at Grasse, Bentil had short stays with Poire-sur-Vie and Marignane, both also on free transfers, as he sought consistent minutes in senior football. Earlier, he played for Chamois Niort following a move from Le Havre, where he progressed from the under-19s into the first team.
At youth level, Bentil stood out in the National U19 competition with seven goals and two assists in just five appearances, underlining the finishing ability that first drew attention to him in France. His career has since taken him through several levels of the domestic structure, providing a varied competitive background.
Bentil’s arrival from RC Grasse adds further depth in attack for Chateaubriant as he begins the next chapter of his career with the National 1 Group B side.
