Glody Lilepo set to leave Kaizer Chiefs after passing Libya medical

Glody Lilepo is closing in on a move from Kaizer Chiefs to Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi after completing medical examinations in Tunisia, according to sources close to the deal.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international travelled to Tunisia earlier this week for the medical, a procedure commonly used by Libyan clubs before completing transfers. The 29-year-old is expected to return to South Africa this weekend while the final administrative details of the proposed move are completed.

A source familiar with the negotiations said the medical had gone successfully and that the relevant parties had reached agreement over the financial terms. The development makes it increasingly unlikely that Lilepo will feature for Kaizer Chiefs during the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

“Lilepo travelled to Tunisia earlier this week for his medicals and everything went well. As things stand, he’s now a step closer to completing the move. The discussions between all the parties have been concluded and the financial terms have been agreed, so it’s highly unlikely that he will be playing for Kaizer Chiefs this season,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

The attacker’s future had been the subject of speculation after he was absent from Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season preparations. His failure to take part in the early work ahead of the new campaign raised questions over whether he would remain at the club.

Those doubts now appear to have been answered, although the transfer still needs to be formally concluded before Lilepo’s departure can be confirmed.

The source also explained why Tunisia was chosen as the location for the examinations, saying it has become a familiar part of the transfer process for players moving to Libya.

“It’s something Libyan clubs normally do. Even in previous transfers involving players going to Libya, the medicals were conducted in Tunisia before everything was finalised. That’s the process they follow.”

Lilepo would leave Kaizer Chiefs before the start of the new Betway Premiership season if the agreement is completed as expected. His spell with Amakhosi would therefore come to an end after the club and Al Ahly Benghazi concluded discussions and agreed the financial aspects of the transfer.

For now, the remaining work is understood to be administrative, with Lilepo due back in South Africa this weekend. The player’s successful medical represents a significant step towards the move, but the official completion of the transfer is still required.
