The Ivorian Yaya Toure was named the best African footballer of the year 2012 on Thursday evening at the Banquet Hall, State House, in Accra. The awards ceremony took place in the presence of President Issa Hayatou and members of the Executive Committee of CAF, as well as the Ghanaian Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kofi Humado Clement.
In addition to this significant award, many other winners were honored during the ceremony.

- Referee of the year: Haimoudi Djamel (Algeria)
- Best hope: Mohamed Salah (Egypt)
- Best player of the year: Genoveva Anonman (Equatorial Guinea)
- Legend: Mahmoud El Gohary (Egypt)
- Legend: Rigobert Song (Cameroon)
- Order of Platinum: John Mahama (President of the Republic of Ghana)
