Borussia Mönchengladbach president Rainer Bonhof has played down speculation surrounding Moroccan youngster Wael Mohya’s future, insisting the club remains the right environment for the teenager to develop despite reported interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

The 18-year-old has attracted attention in Germany ahead of the January transfer window, with reports suggesting that both Bundesliga giants are monitoring his progress at Gladbach.

Speculation has also emerged that Mönchengladbach could demand as much as €100 million for the Moroccan prospect, although no official offer of that value has been announced.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Bonhof stressed that Mohya should concentrate on his development rather than allow interest from other clubs to distract him.

“What comes from outside does not interest me at all. This young player must continue developing and gain the experience he needs to take off. We are currently the right place for him,” Bonhof said.

Gladbach keen to keep Moroccan prospect beyond 2028

Bonhof also addressed the possibility of extending Mohya’s contract, which currently runs until 2028.

The Gladbach president indicated that the youngster is comfortable at the club, while the management believes the existing environment provides the right conditions for his continued progress.

He also highlighted the relationship between the club, Mohya and his family, suggesting that they appreciate the opportunities and support available at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Although no agreement over a contract extension has been announced, Bonhof’s comments underline the club’s desire to retain the Moroccan talent rather than rush into a transfer.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund monitor Mohya

Interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund has further increased attention surrounding Mohya, with both clubs reportedly following his development.

The two German giants are known for investing in young talents with long-term potential, making the Moroccan an interesting prospect as they monitor emerging players.

A move to either club would represent a significant step in Mohya’s career, but Gladbach’s position suggests they would prefer him to gain more experience before considering his departure.

For now, the reported €100 million valuation remains part of the speculation surrounding the youngster, with neither Bayern nor Dortmund publicly confirming an offer of that amount.

With his contract running until 2028, Mohya’s immediate future remains at Borussia Mönchengladbach, where the club hopes he can continue developing and fulfil his growing potential.
