Given Msimango confirms Kaizer Chiefs exit before Stellenbosch FC move

Given Msimango has confirmed he is leaving Kaizer Chiefs ahead of an imminent move to Stellenbosch FC, although neither club has officially announced the transfer.

The 29-year-old defender is set to join Stellenbosch FC as part of a swap deal involving Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley Du Preez. Under the proposed agreement, Du Preez will also move to the Winelands club, while Langelihle Phili will transfer in the opposite direction.

Msimango confirmed his departure from Amakhosi on Monday, bringing an end to his spell with the club after joining from TS Galaxy in 2023. During his time at Kaizer Chiefs, the defender made 53 appearances, including 13 during the most recent campaign.

Despite his exit now being confirmed by the player, the move to Stellenbosch FC remains formally unannounced by both clubs. The same applies to Du Preez’s transfer, although the forward has already been pictured wearing Stellenbosch FC colours.

Msimango announced his departure in a post on Instagram, thanking Kaizer Chiefs for the memories created during his time at the club.

“Thank you, Kaizer Chiefs, for giving me memories that will last a lifetime,” he wrote on Instagram.

“It was an honour to wear this badge and be part of this great club. I leave with gratitude in my heart and wish the club nothing but success.”

The defender’s move will bring his three-year association with Kaizer Chiefs to a close. He arrived at Amakhosi from TS Galaxy in 2023 and went on to make 53 appearances for the club, with 13 of those coming in the last campaign.

His imminent transfer forms part of a deal that will see personnel exchanged between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC. Du Preez is due to move to Stellenbosch FC, while Phili is expected to join Kaizer Chiefs.

Although the clubs have yet to confirm the arrangement, Du Preez’s appearance in Stellenbosch FC kit has provided an indication that the deal is progressing. Msimango’s public farewell has likewise confirmed his departure from Kaizer Chiefs before the official announcements.

The move means Stellenbosch FC are set to add an experienced defender who has spent the past three years at one of South Africa’s best-known clubs. For Kaizer Chiefs, the agreement would involve the departure of Msimango and Du Preez, with Phili moving to Amakhosi.

For now, the player announcements remain ahead of the clubs’ formal confirmation. Msimango has already made his position clear, saying he leaves Kaizer Chiefs with gratitude and wishing the club success.
