Spanish side Girona have confirmed that Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has sustained a calf injury in his left leg, sidelining the midfielder for several weeks.
Reports indicate that Ounahi, a key figure in coach Michel Sánchez’s squad, picked up the injury during the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
On Tuesday, the 23-year-old underwent comprehensive medical tests to assess the extent of the damage.
While Girona did not provide a specific timeline for his return, Sánchez told reporters ahead of the team’s 1-1 draw with Getafe that Ounahi is “recovering very well.”
The coach stressed the importance of caution, hoping to have the midfielder back soon without risking a relapse.
Ounahi joined Girona last summer from Olympique Marseille and has quickly become one of the team’s leaders.
In 10 appearances this season, he has scored three goals and provided two assists, playing a pivotal role in the “Red and White” side’s strong start.
