Ginola, Ali, Zico: First Candidates for FIFA Presidency Announced

FIFA Presidency: The Race to Succeed Sepp Blatter Begins

With Sepp Blatter’s unexpected resignation from FIFA’s top post on Tuesday, the race for the presidency is officially underway—and potential candidates are already emerging.

Among the first to express interest is David Ginola, former French international and current Canal+ presenter. Ginola had previously declared his candidacy ahead of last week’s election but was forced to withdraw after failing to gather the required five sponsorship letters from national federations.

Also expected to run again is Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, who mounted a strong challenge against Blatter just five days ago, earning 73 votes in the first round before stepping aside prior to the runoff.

In Brazil, football legend and former national team coach Zico has also thrown his hat into the ring, declaring his intention to run for FIFA’s top job.

Additionally, Jérôme Champagne of France and Michel van Praag of the Netherlands—both of whom withdrew earlier in support of Prince Ali—are rumored to be reconsidering a bid.

As FIFA prepares for an extraordinary congress to elect a new president, the field of contenders is quickly taking shape. The world watches closely as football enters a pivotal new chapter.
