Gift Orban faces uncertain future at Hoffenheim

Gift Orban’s prospects at TSG Hoffenheim look bleak, with no clear pathway into the first team and no concrete transfer solution on the horizon.

According to Kicker, the 23-year-old Nigerian striker currently has no follow-up move lined up after his loan spell at Hellas Verona.

Orban is set to return to Hoffenheim, but he will report back a week later than his teammates as he is still on summer holiday. Even once he is back, he does not feature in head coach Christian Ilzer’s plans, and is expected to work on an individual training programme rather than joining the main group. In parallel, the club will continue searching for options to resolve the situation of a player who once cost them 9 million euros.

While Hoffenheim have already made progress with other returning loanees and are close to finalising several exits, Orban’s case is proving far more complicated. At the moment, neither a permanent transfer nor another loan move is taking shape.

Signed in January 2025, Orban struggled to meet expectations in Germany and his stint at Verona also failed to provide the breakthrough both clubs had hoped for. For now, Hoffenheim are left trying to find any viable perspective for the out-of-favour forward.
