Gideon Mensah cleared to join FC Koln pre-season camp

Gideon Mensah has been given the medical green light and is set to travel to Kitzbuhel on Monday evening to link up with his FC Köln teammates for their pre-season training camp.

The club confirmed that the 28-year-old left-back, who had been sidelined by illness, is now fully recovered and will be gradually eased into full training over the coming days.

Mensah joined Koln after the 2026 World Cup, arriving from French side Auxerre, where he made 114 appearances and contributed four assists across all competitions. He also featured in four matches for Ghana at the 2026 tournament, underlining his experience at the highest level. His delayed integration into the squad had been a minor concern, but the latest update brings relief to both staff and supporters.

Koln see Mensah as an important piece of their defensive puzzle for the new Bundesliga season, with his pace, energy and international pedigree expected to strengthen the left side.

The club has indicated he will be brought up to speed step by step in Kitzbuhel, ensuring he reaches full match fitness without risking a setback. With the World Cup now behind him and his health issues resolved, Mensah can finally focus on settling in and fighting for a starting role.
