Kayserispor defender Gideon Jung has left the Turkish Süper Lig side and is now a free agent, with his contract officially terminated and his registration transferred to “Without Club” on 2026-02-02. The 31-year-old centre-back departs the Kayseri outfit on a free, with no transfer fee involved, and is immediately available on the market following the end of his deal on 2026-02-02.
The move confirms that Jung’s stint in Türkiye has come to a close and formally places him outside any professional club structure. Listed with a market value of €400k at the time of his exit, the Germany- and Ghana-eligible defender becomes one of the more experienced unattached options in his position, having most recently competed in the Süper Lig before his release.
Jung arrived at Kayserispor from German side SpVgg Greuther Fürth, joining the Turkish club at the start of the 2025–26 season after several years in the 2. Bundesliga and Bundesliga system. His switch from Fürth to Kayserispor was recorded with no fee, continuing a career pattern in which his major moves have been free transfers rather than big-money deals. Now, with his spell in Türkiye concluded, he once again enters the market without a transfer sum attached.
Born in Düsseldorf and standing 1.89m tall, Jung is a right-footed central defender whose profile once made him one of the more highly rated young defenders in Germany. His market value peaked at €4 million during his time with Hamburger SV, where he established himself in the top two tiers of German football. Before reaching HSV’s first team, he progressed through the youth ranks at SF Baumberg (U17 and U19) and then Rot-Weiß Oberhausen’s U19s, earning his first senior appearances with Oberhausen before Hamburg signed him ahead of the 2014–15 campaign.
At HSV, Jung’s valuation rose steadily as he featured regularly, eventually prompting a move to Greuther Fürth in 2021. Across his years in Fürth, his value stabilised between €500k and €700k, reflecting his status as a reliable squad defender in Germany’s professional leagues. His subsequent transfer to Kayserispor in Türkiye exposed him to a new environment and competition, but his value dipped slightly to €400k by late 2025.
Internationally, Jung holds both German and Ghanaian nationality, a dual background that has long made him a player of interest for observers in both countries, even though he is not currently listed with a national team. His most recent registration shows him as “Without Club” at national-team level as well, underlining his complete free-agent status at both club and international tiers.
With his Kayserispor contract concluded on 2026-02-02 and no new employer announced, Jung’s next step will likely depend on which club hierarchy moves quickest to secure an experienced, physically strong centre-back at relatively low cost. Whether he returns to Germany, explores another foreign league, or waits for the right project, his availability as a free agent ensures that his future remains open and his next decision could prove decisive for the latter stages of his professional career.
