FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Visit Algeria for Key Football Projects

Gianni Infantino is expected in Algeria this week for an official visit centred on football development, including the inauguration of a new regional technical facility and a series of high-level meetings.

The FIFA president is scheduled to arrive on Thursday, where he will be received by Walid Sadi, head of the Algerian Football Federation.

A key moment of the visit will take place in the northern city of Tlemcen, where Infantino will officially open the Lalla Setti Regional Technical Centre. The facility is expected to play a significant role in the development of football at grassroots and regional levels within the country.

The inauguration follows the recent launch of the “FIFA Football for Schools” programme in Algeria, an initiative already introduced at the same site earlier this week.

The programme, developed by FIFA, is designed to integrate football into educational systems, using the sport as a tool to support learning, encourage physical activity and foster personal development among students.

The initiative also focuses on equipping teachers with the resources and training needed to incorporate football into classroom and extracurricular activities.

Through this approach, it aims to strengthen both sporting and educational frameworks while promoting key values such as respect, inclusion and teamwork.

Infantino’s trip is not limited to ceremonial duties. His itinerary also includes several official meetings during his stay, reflecting the broader strategic cooperation between FIFA and Algerian football authorities.

The visit comes at a time when Algeria continues to invest in football infrastructure and youth development, with projects such as the Tlemcen centre forming part of a wider effort to strengthen the sport at multiple levels.

While the schedule remains tightly packed, Infantino is expected to conclude his engagements and depart later the same night.

The visit underlines FIFA’s ongoing involvement in supporting national associations through development programmes and infrastructure initiatives.
