Ghazl El Mahalla have brought back Mohamed Awda as head coach in a last-ditch effort to avoid relegation, following the sacking of Cypriot manager Nikodemos Papavasiliou.
The decision comes after a crushing 4-0 loss to El Gouna in the seventh round of the relegation group.
Now sitting second from bottom with just 21 points and two matches left, the club is in urgent need of results. Awda returns with experience and knowledge of the club, having coached Mahalla during the 2022-2023 season.
He will be supported by a new technical team made up of Sameh El-Sakka and Abdel-Rahman Fahmy as assistants, Wissam Ismail as goalkeeper coach, and Mohamed Othman as physical trainer.
This appointment marks Mahalla’s fourth coaching change of the season, after stints by Ahmed Eid Abdel Malek, Shawky Gharib, and Papavasiliou.
The club’s management believes Awda’s return can bring much-needed stability and a spark to push the team through the final rounds. With survival on the line, every point now counts.
