Ghazl El Mahalla fans left waiting as first win slips away
Ghazl El Mahalla’s fans filled El Mahalla Stadium with songs and hope, but they left with heavy hearts after their team missed the chance to celebrate a first victory of the season in the Egyptian Premier League.
The home side battled Smouha to a tense 0-0 draw on Saturday evening, leaving frustration in the air rather than triumph.
It was the second straight draw for El Mahalla, who had opened their campaign with a stalemate against Al-Ahly Bank. This time, however, the disappointment cut deeper. The moment that could have changed everything came late, as Mohamed Abdel Latif “Grindo” stepped up to the penalty spot in the 83rd minute. Silence fell over the stadium, anticipation thick in the air. But when the chance went begging, the roar of joy turned into groans of disbelief.
The result leaves Mahalla on two points and sitting in eleventh place, level with Smouha in twelfth. Elsewhere in the round, Zamalek also settled for a goalless draw with El Mokawloon El Arab, while Enppi edged Wadi Degla 1-0.
