Ghana international, Tariq Lamptey got his name on the scoresheet in a thrilling 2-2 draw between Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City on Sunday afternoon at the King Power Stadium.
The versatile full-back earned a starting role for Brighton as they faced Leicester in a crucial Week 16 encounter of the English Premier League.
Brighton took control early in the match, with Tariq Lamptey opening the scoring in the 37th minute. A brilliant lofted pass from Pervis Estupinan found Lamptey at the edge of the penalty area, where he calmly controlled the ball before sending a powerful shot into the top-left corner of the net. This stunning strike gave Brighton a 1-0 lead.
In the 79th minute, Brighton extended their advantage to 2-0 thanks to an incredible individual effort by Yankuba Minteh. Minteh’s dynamic run into the box culminated in a precise strike into the bottom-left corner, leaving Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen with no chance.
However, Leicester fought back late in the game. In the 86th minute, veteran striker Jamie Vardy reduced the deficit, heading home from a perfect cross by Bobby De Cordova-Reid. Vardy’s strike found the bottom-right corner of the net, making it 2-1.
The drama wasn’t over yet. In injury time (90+1), Leicester equalized. Vardy again turned provider, playing a slick pass to De Cordova-Reid, who finished clinically inside the penalty area to make it 2-2, securing a point for the home side.
For Lamptey, this goal marks his first of the season, adding to his tally of two assists in four Premier League appearances for Brighton so far.
He will be hoping for more playing time in upcoming games to have the chance to help his team.
