Ghana’s Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer joins Mainz 05 on free transfer after Hamburg exit
Mainz 05 have completed the signing of Ghana international forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with fellow Bundesliga side Hamburger SV.
The 24-year-old officially moves to the Mewa Arena on July 1, 2026, marking a significant reinforcement for the 05ers ahead of the new campaign.
The versatile attacker leaves Hamburg after a four-year stint where he played a pivotal role in the club’s recent top-flight history.
During the 2025/26 season, Königsdörffer established himself as one of the most durable players in the league, featuring in 33 Bundesliga matches and contributing five goals to help HSV maintain their status in the division.
Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert expressed high praise for the club’s newest addition during the official announcement.
Bungert described the Ghanaian forward as a “quick, physical forward” who possesses the specific attributes required to thrive in the team’s current system.
The sporting director noted that Königsdörffer’s tactical profile fits the club perfectly as they look to build on their recent league performance.
The move marks a fresh chapter for the Berlin-born forward, whose career nearly took a different path a year ago.
In the summer of 2025, Königsdörffer was on the verge of a €6 million move to Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, but the deal famously collapsed at the medical stage.
He subsequently remained at Hamburg for the final year of his deal before choosing Mainz as his next destination.
Königsdörffer began his professional journey with Dynamo Dresden after leaving the Hertha BSC youth academy.
By securing his services on a free transfer, Mainz have acquired a proven Bundesliga performer and international talent without a transfer fee, making the deal one of the more strategic pieces of business in the current window.
