Osman Bukari, the dynamic Ghanaian winger, has made a high-profile move from Red Star Belgrade to Austin FC in Major League Soccer (MLS). The 25-year-old has been a standout performer in the Serbian SuperLiga, contributing significantly to his team’s success with seven goals and six assists in 27 league appearances this season.
Bukari’s stellar performances have played a pivotal role in Red Star Belgrade’s championship victory, marking their second consecutive title with the Ghanaian at the heart of their attacking play.
His exceptional skills and consistent form have now earned him a new challenge in the MLS, as he embarks on his journey with Austin FC.
“It is with this title that Bukari leaves Belgrade for Texas in the United States, where he will now play with Austin FC,” announced Red Star Belgrade in a statement.
The transfer fee for Bukari is reported to be $7 million, and he has signed a contract with Austin FC until the end of the 2027 season, with an option for an additional year.
Despite the excitement surrounding his arrival, Bukari will have to wait until July 18, 2024, to make his debut, coinciding with the opening of the MLS transfer window.
His move to Austin FC sees him joining fellow Ghanaian international Joseph Paintsil, who currently plays for LA Galaxy.
Austin FC, led by coach Josh Wolff, is focused on making a strong push for the Audi MLS Cup playoffs.
The team, which finished as the 2022 Western Conference finalists, is currently fifth in the standings with 23 points.
Bukari’s addition is expected to bolster their attacking options and enhance their playoff ambitions.
“The way Wigan like to play is exactly the style that suits my game and that is really important to me as I look to further my career,” Bukari said, reflecting on his move to Austin FC.
His familiarity with dynamic, attacking football will be a valuable asset as he integrates into his new team and the competitive landscape of MLS.
As Bukari prepares to bring his talent to the United States, Austin FC fans eagerly anticipate his contributions on the field.
His journey from Serbia to Texas marks a significant step in his career, promising exciting times ahead for both the player and the club.
