Royale Union Saint-Gilloise stand just one win away from ending a 90-year wait for a Belgian league title, with their final game of the season set to decide the 2024/25 championship.
The Brussels-based club will be crowned champions if they defeat KAA Gent, bringing an end to a title drought that stretches back to 1935.
Instrumental in the club’s remarkable run has been 23-year-old Ghanaian forward Mohammed Fuseini, whose debut season has seen him emerge as one of the league’s most efficient attackers.
Since arriving from Austrian side Sturm Graz in July 2024, Fuseini has adapted quickly to life in Belgium, contributing nine goals across the campaign.
The former Right to Dream Academy winger has evolved into a central attacking force, combining blistering speed, intelligent positioning, and clinical finishing. With 51 shots taken across 1,625 minutes of league football, his non-penalty expected goals per shot stands at 0.18 — the sixth-best in the league — highlighting the quality of chances he generates.
Despite underperforming his xG by a small margin, Fuseini’s goals-per-shot-on-target ratio of 0.56 places him among the most effective finishers in Belgium.
His standout moment came with a brace against Antwerp, including a precise finish from a tight angle with his weaker foot.
Union SG’s attacking setup, often pairing Fuseini with a physical striker, has allowed him to operate with tactical freedom — drifting wide or dropping deep to drive transitions.
Earlier in the season, he clocked the fastest top speed across four major European leagues at 37.58 km/h.
Backed by Brighton & Hove Albion owner Tony Bloom since 2018, Union Saint-Gilloise have rapidly climbed back to the top.
After two seasons of narrow misses, the club is now closer than ever to rewriting history — and Fuseini remains at the heart of that ambition.
