Ghana’s Caleb Yirenkyi passes medical ahead of record Coventry transfer

Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi has taken a major step towards completing his record move to Coventry City after successfully passing his medical examination.

The midfielder is now on the verge of sealing a transfer from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland to the Premier League club, with the deal expected to be finalised this weekend.

News of the medical comes just a day after reports emerged that Coventry were closing in on the signature of one of Ghana’s brightest young talents in the current transfer window.

Coventry close in on club-record signing

Yirenkyi is expected to join Coventry in a deal worth around €30 million, which would make him one of the most expensive Ghanaian players in recent years.

The 22-year-old attracted interest following an outstanding campaign with Nordsjaelland, where he made 29 appearances and played a key role in the club’s performances with crucial goals and assists.

His impressive displays earned him the Danish Superliga Young Player of the Year award, while he was also voted FC Nordsjaelland’s Player of the Season.

World Cup heroics boosted reputation

The midfielder’s stock rose even further after his performances for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Yirenkyi was part of the Black Stars squad that reached the round of 32, helping Ghana progress beyond the group stage for the first time since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

He played a decisive role in the campaign, most notably scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Panama in Ghana’s opening match to secure all three points.

Premier League challenge awaits

Yirenkyi’s performances at both club and international level have made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in European football.

With his medical now completed, the Ghana international is expected to finalise his move to Coventry in the coming days as he prepares for the next chapter of his career in the Premier League.
