Ghana’s senior women’s football team, the Black Queens, have arrived in Casablanca with a squad of 19 players ahead of their international friendly against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco on Friday, February 21.
The match will mark the first test for newly appointed head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, who was recently unveiled as Ghana’s new manager.
The team departed from Accra in the early hours of Saturday, February 15, to commence preparations for the highly anticipated clash.
Bjorkegren named his squad shortly after his unveiling, with only four players from the Ghana Women’s Premier League earning call-ups.
Several foreign-based players have already joined the camp, while Jennifer Cudjoe, Azumah Bugre, and Grace Asantewaa are expected to arrive later today from the USA, Turkey, and Mexico, respectively, bringing the squad total to 22.
The Black Queens will hold their first training session on Monday, with additional sessions planned leading up to the game.
Meanwhile, Mary Amponsah, the top scorer in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, has received a late call-up to replace the unwell Alice Kusi.
Following their clash with the Atlas Lionesses at the Père Jègo Stadium, the Black Queens will face Moroccan club side AS FAR Club three days later.
