Ghana’s Black Princesses return to Accra after U-20 Women’s World Cup exit

The Black Princesses have returned to Accra following their elimination from the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

The team touched down in Accra on Tuesday morning after their campaign ended at the group stage for the eighth consecutive time.

Ghana were eliminated after suffering a 4-0 defeat to France in their final Group C game, ending their hopes of reaching the knockout stage for the first time in the team’s history.

The Black Princesses needed a positive result against the French to keep their qualification hopes alive after losing their opening match 3-0 to Ecuador.

They responded to that defeat with an impressive 3-1 victory over South Korea, setting up a decisive final group encounter against France.

Charles Sampson’s side started brightly and thought they had taken the lead when Priscilla Mensah found the back of the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Ghana defended resolutely to keep France at bay in the opening half, with the teams going into the break level.

France eventually broke the deadlock in the 54th minute before doubling their advantage in the 68th minute.

Ghana’s task became more difficult when Ruth Amponsah was penalised for handball inside the box, allowing France to convert the resulting penalty and make it 3-0.

The French side added a fourth goal in the 85th minute to complete a convincing victory.

Ghana finished bottom of Group C with three points from three matches, extending their wait for a first-ever knockout-stage appearance.
