Ghana international Alexander Djiku suffered an injury when Fenerbahce locked horns with Erzurumspor in the Turkish Cup competition on Wednesday.
Djiku was forced off with an injury as his outfit cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory over Erzurumspor in Istanbul, ensuring their qualification to the next round of the competition.
The Black Stars defender had to be subbed off after 55 minutes in the much-anticipated clash, held at the Ulker Stadium Şükrü Saracoğlu in Istanbul.
After the game, Jose Mourinho disclosed the Ghanaian defender picked up a muscle injury and will have to under scans to determine the extent of the injury.
“Djiku has a muscle injury. Diego Carlos and Yusuf have a problem with their knees. Let’s wait. We will have an MRI tomorrow and see what happens. This is the situation we are in, but we also have Skriniar and Çağlar in this position” he said.
Fenerbahce went to the halftime break with the advantage after Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute mark.
After recess, veteran forward Cenk Tosun converted a penalty in the 50th minute before a goal from Mert Yandas and a brace from Youssef En Nesyri sealed the emphatic win for the home team.
The 30-year-old Ghanaian centre-back has been outstanding under seasoned trainer Jose Mourinho, making 27 appearances across competitions for the club.
