Benjamin Tetteh has officially concluded his time with FC Metz, signing permanently with Slovenian side NK Maribor after a productive loan spell that began in September 2024.
The 27-year-old Ghanaian forward joined Metz in the summer of 2023 from Hull City, making 13 Ligue 1 appearances under coach László Bölöni.
However, he struggled to find the net in France’s top division. In search of more playing time and a confidence boost, Tetteh moved to Maribor on loan last autumn.
At Maribor, Tetteh rediscovered his goal-scoring touch, finding the net 13 times in 21 Slovenian PrvaLiga matches. His runs, aerial presence, and composure in front of goal quickly turned him into a fan favourite.
The club, which narrowly missed out on the Slovenian title last season, wasted little time in making Tetteh’s stay permanent.
In an official statement, FC Metz confirmed the loan-to-buy arrangement: “The shared history between FC Metz and Benjamin Tetteh ends here.
He arrived in Moselle in summer 2023 and took part in 13 Ligue 1 matches under László Bölöni… His performances won over the recent runners-up in Slovenia, and the former Hull City player has now made a permanent move to the Slovenian club.”
Tetteh’s move marks a significant turn in his career. While limited chances in Ligue 1 stalled his progression, his form in Slovenia underscored his quality at a competitive level.
The permanent switch offers him a stable environment and regular first‑team action – crucial elements for any player seeking to reach their potential.
FC Metz, relegated to Ligue 2 last season, had hoped Tetteh would produce more during his time in France. His departure now frees up space in the squad and the wage bill, allowing the Lorraine club to redirect resources ahead of another campaign in the French second tier.
For Maribor, retaining Tetteh represents a strategic coup in their pursuit of silverware. His aerial ability and goal threat will be central to their ambitions, as they bid to convert their near-miss last season into a championship or trophy run.
Professionals around European football will now observe whether Tetteh can maintain his striking form over a full season on a permanent basis, rather than an impactful loan spell.
The move gives him the platform to reestablish himself and potentially attract attention from larger leagues once again.
At 27, Tetteh is entering a defining period of his career. The decision to remain in Maribor reflects a player determined to build on recent success rather than wandering through unsettled loan arrangements.
His time in Slovenia may just be the springboard needed to relaunch himself into the spotlight—and possibly back onto a larger European stage in the future.
