Ghanaian midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has emerged as a transfer target for French clubs Strasbourg and FC Nantes, following an impressive loan campaign at Belgian side Cercle Bruges.

Currently on loan from Austrian giants RB Salzburg, the 21-year-old has caught the attention of Ligue 1 scouts after a consistent season in Belgium’s top tier.

Despite not featuring in Salzburg’s plans for the 2024–25 season, Agyekum has made the most of his loan move, becoming a key figure in Cercle Bruges’ midfield setup.

In all competitions, Agyekum has racked up 44 appearances, contributing two goals and two assists.

His performances have been marked by a strong work ethic, composure in possession, and tactical intelligence—qualities that have reportedly attracted interest from multiple French clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

Cercle Bruges are keen to retain the midfielder beyond his loan spell, with a purchase option clause included in his contract.

The Belgian outfit is expected to exercise that clause, but interest from France could complicate matters.

Strasbourg, currently enjoying a solid run in Ligue 1, are said to be leading the race for Agyekum’s signature.

Backed by BlueCo—an ownership group with financial muscle and long-term ambitions—the Alsace-based club sees the Ghanaian as a valuable addition to strengthen their midfield for upcoming European campaigns.

“Strasbourg’s project is very appealing to young players looking to take the next step,” a source close to the negotiations said. “They offer a competitive environment and the chance to grow under less pressure than at bigger clubs.”

FC Nantes, also in pursuit, face a more uncertain proposition, with their league standing for next season yet to be fully secured.

While still in the frame, their position is weakened compared to Strasbourg’s upward trajectory.

Agyekum’s future remains unresolved as Cercle Bruges hold contractual leverage through the purchase option.

However, if the French clubs decide to act decisively, a bidding contest could unfold, making the Ghanaian’s situation one of the more intriguing storylines of the upcoming window.

As things stand, the midfielder’s next move is far from settled, but what’s clear is that his development in Belgium has not gone unnoticed—paving the way for a potential leap into one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
