Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo has been shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Week award following his standout performance in Bournemouth’s victory over Brighton on matchday four.

The 25-year-old forward delivered both a goal and an assist as the Cherries secured another important win in their strong start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Semenyo first created the opener for Alex Scott before converting a penalty himself, taking his tally to five direct goal involvements this season.

His display earned him recognition among the league’s best performers of the week, with the striker joining an illustrious shortlist that includes Manchester City’s derby hero Erling Haaland, Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi and Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall.

Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Sunderland’s Robin Roefs and Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade complete the list of nominees.

For Semenyo, this marks the second time he has been nominated for the weekly prize since the start of the new campaign, underlining his growing influence in the Premier League.

In addition to his individual nomination, the former Bristol City forward was also named in the Team of the Week for the second time in just four matches.

Bournemouth supporters will view his nomination as deserved recognition for a player who has consistently delivered in the early weeks of the season.

His pace, work rate and direct attacking play have made him a central figure in Andoni Iraola’s system, while his increasing goal contributions have further strengthened his status as a key weapon for the Cherries.

Semenyo’s rise comes after a promising end to last season, where he established himself as a regular starter and began translating his international form with Ghana into the Premier League.

The new campaign has seen him build on that progress, showing greater maturity in his decision-making and sharper instincts in front of goal.

While the weekly award remains competitive, with Haaland and others providing stiff opposition, Semenyo’s nomination alone reflects the impression he is making at the top level of English football.

He narrowly missed out on the Player of the Month award for August, which went to Everton winger Jack Grealish, but his consistent inclusion among the league’s top performers suggests further accolades may soon follow.

As Bournemouth look to maintain their momentum, Semenyo’s ability to combine creativity with clinical finishing will be central to their ambitions, both in the league and beyond.

For now, his latest nomination is another sign that the Ghanaian forward is becoming one of the Premier League’s most reliable attacking threats.
