Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko part ways with 14 first-team players ahead of 2026/27 season

Asante Kotoko SC have confirmed the departure of 14 first-team players as the club begins preparations for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The Porcupine Warriors announced the major squad changes following a detailed assessment of the team that competed during the 2025/26 campaign.

According to the club, the departures are the result of different circumstances, with some players leaving after reaching the end of their contracts, while others have mutually agreed with the club to terminate their existing deals.

Among those leaving the club are several experienced players who formed part of Kotoko’s squad during the previous campaign.

Goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, centre-backs Samba O’Neil and Henry Ansu, midfielder Baba Yahaya, and forwards Peter Amidu Acquah and Albert Amoah have all departed the club following the expiration of their contracts.

The club has also confirmed the exits of goalkeeper Benjamin Twum, centre-back Zackaria Fuseini, left-back Francis Acquah, midfielder Prince Badu, and forwards Isaac Mintah, Kwame Opoku, Johnson Owusu and Elvis Kyei Baffour.

Unlike the first group, these players have left following mutual agreements with the club to bring their respective contracts to an end.

As a result, the 14 players are now free to pursue new opportunities ahead of the upcoming season.

The departures represent a significant reshaping of the Kotoko squad as the club looks to build a team capable of competing strongly in the 2026/27 campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors will now turn their attention to strengthening the squad, with the technical team and management expected to work on bringing in new players to fill the gaps created by the departures.

Kotoko will also be keen to ensure that the transition does not affect their competitiveness as they prepare for another demanding Ghana Premier League campaign.

The decision to release the 14 players signals the beginning of a new phase for the Kumasi giants, who will be hoping that their recruitment plans and squad restructuring produce the desired results when the new season gets underway.
