Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana completes medical ahead of Atalanta move

Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana completes medical ahead of Atalanta move

Kamaldeen Sulemana has successfully undergone a medical with Atalanta, paving the way for his imminent transfer to the Serie A side following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League.

The Ghanaian international, who previously played for Stade Rennais in Ligue 1 before moving to England, is now set to begin a new chapter in Italy.

His arrival at Atalanta is expected to be officially confirmed within hours, with images of the 22-year-old circulating widely on social media throughout the day as he completed his medical assessments.

Sulemana spent the 2023/24 season with Southampton, where he was part of a squad that struggled to avoid the drop from England’s top flight. Despite flashes of his explosive pace and attacking flair, the club failed to retain its Premier League status, prompting speculation around his future.

With Atalanta moving quickly to secure his services, the Ghanaian winger is now set for a fresh challenge in Serie A.

The former FC Nordsjælland forward is well known for his speed, technical ability, and direct playing style—attributes that caught the eye during his time in both Denmark and France.

His breakout performances at Rennes helped establish him as one of the most promising young attackers in Europe, ultimately leading to his transfer to Southampton in early 2023.

However, with the Saints’ relegation, a move away from St Mary’s became increasingly likely. Atalanta, known for nurturing talent and playing a dynamic, attacking brand of football under Gian Piero Gasperini, emerged as frontrunners for his signature.

While the full terms of the agreement between Atalanta and Southampton have yet to be disclosed, Sulemana’s medical at the Bergamo-based club marks the final stage of the transfer process.

His presence at the club’s facilities drew considerable attention, with photos and videos of the player undergoing routine checks quickly spreading across social platforms.

The move is expected to give Sulemana a new platform to rediscover the form that once made him one of Africa’s most watched young footballers.

For Atalanta, the addition of the Ghanaian attacker signals a reinforcement of their wide options ahead of the new season, as the club continues to build a competitive squad to challenge on both domestic and European fronts.

At international level, Sulemana has represented Ghana in various competitions, including the FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations, earning praise for his composure and creativity on the ball.

His experience on the global stage and exposure to top-tier European football are expected to add valuable depth and dynamism to Atalanta’s attacking lineup.

With the medical now complete and formalities nearly concluded, Sulemana’s transfer to Atalanta is all but confirmed. The announcement of his signing is anticipated to follow shortly, bringing an end to speculation about his future and marking the start of his next journey in Italian football.
