Ghanaian forward Eric Ayiah has joined Portuguese Liga 3 side Varzim Sport Club on a season-long loan from FC Felgueiras.
The move was confirmed just before the close of the transfer window, giving the 25-year-old striker an opportunity to earn more consistent minutes in the upcoming campaign.
Varzim announced the deal through their official Facebook page, stating: Eric Ayiah is loaned out from FC Felgueiras until 2026. The signing comes as the club looks to strengthen its attack ahead of a promotion push this season.
Ayiah arrives after a solid year with Felgueiras, where he scored five goals and provided three assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
His energy, work ethic and versatility in the forward line earned him praise from supporters, but stiff competition for attacking roles ultimately led to the decision to send him out on loan.
Once considered one of Ghana’s brightest young prospects, Ayiah first rose to prominence as captain of the national under-17 side.
He represented the Black Starlets on 10 occasions, showcasing his talent on the international stage.
His early promise earned him a move to AS Monaco’s academy, but he has since built his career in Portugal, featuring for several lower-tier clubs as he continues to refine his game.
Despite his youth-level exploits, Ayiah is still awaiting a first senior call-up to Ghana’s national team.
For now, his focus will be on making the most of this new opportunity with Varzim.
The club believes his addition will add depth and attacking options as they aim to secure promotion from Liga 3.
For Ayiah, the loan represents a chance to rediscover his sharpest form, prove his consistency, and position himself for greater opportunities in the near future.
At 25, the forward still carries the potential that once made him one of Ghana’s most promising players, and Varzim will be hoping his arrival translates into goals and results as the 2025/26 season unfolds.
