Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea have confirmed that their late player, Dominic Frimpong, will be laid to rest on April 29, 2026, in Assin Fosu in the Central Region of Ghana.

The 20-year-old died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a highway robbery attack last Sunday while the team was travelling back to Berekum after their Premier League fixture against FC Samartex.

The attack occurred along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District, as the team made the journey from Samreboi to Berekum following the match.

The club has confirmed that Frimpong, who was on loan from Aduana FC, will be buried in his hometown, with family members, teammates, football officials and supporters expected to attend the funeral to pay their final respects.

Following the tragedy, Berekum Chelsea have suspended football activities temporarily, with players and staff undergoing psychological and medical support as the club gradually works towards resuming normal operations.

Police are continuing investigations into the attack, with two suspects, including an alleged gang leader, currently in custody.

FIFA, CAF and several clubs have also paid tribute to the young forward, describing his death as a major loss to the game.
