Ghanaian defender Riis Opoku Twumasi joins STK Samorin on free transfer

Ghanaian centre-back Riis Opoku Twumasi has joined Slovakian club STK Samorin on a free transfer from Moldovan side FC Sheriff.

The 20-year-old completed the move on 16 September and will continue his career in Slovakia’s II. Liga. Twumasi leaves FC Sheriff after one season with the club, having moved there from Ghanaian side Aduana in September 2025 for a fee of €100,000.

Twumasi was born in Kumasi and stands 1.87m tall. He has represented Ghana as his nationality throughout his career and is listed primarily as a central defender.

His switch to Samorin follows a period at FC Sheriff during the 2025-26 season. Before joining the Moldovan club, Twumasi had moved from Berekum Chelsea to Aduana on 1 August 2025. His transfer to FC Sheriff came shortly afterwards, extending his career from Ghana into European football.

The move takes Samorin’s new defender into a different domestic competition, with the club competing in the Slovak second tier. FC Sheriff, meanwhile, play in Moldova’s Super Liga and were also involved in qualifying competitions for the UEFA Conference League and Europa League during the 2026-27 campaign.

Twumasi has not made an appearance in the Super Liga this season, nor has he featured in Sheriff’s European qualifying matches. He joins Samorin with a listed market value of €150,000.

The defender’s arrival adds a Ghanaian player to Samorin’s squad and represents his third club since leaving Berekum Chelsea. His career has therefore included football in Ghana, Moldova and now Slovakia before his 21st birthday.

Twumasi’s transfer was registered on 16 September, with the free move taking him from FC Sheriff to STK Samorin.
