Promising Ghanaian defender Mohammed Umar played a pivotal role in FC Politehnica Iasi’s thrilling 2-1 comeback victory against Sănătatea Cluj in the Cupa României.
The former Ghana U-20 international was part of the starting lineup for the clash at Stadionul Clujana.
The hosts took the lead in the 36th minute through Laley Fofana, putting Politehnica Iasi under pressure heading into halftime. However, the visitors emerged more focused in the second half and leveled the score just two minutes after the restart, thanks to a goal from Robert Miskovic.
Five minutes later, Mohammed Umar delivered the decisive moment, finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute to secure Politehnica Iasi’s first away win in the competition. Umar’s performance was instrumental as he played the full 90 minutes.
The victory lifts FC Politehnica Iasi to second place in their group with four points from two games, bolstering their hopes of advancing in the league cup.
Umar, who joined Politehnica Iasi from Finnish side Ilves, continues to impress in his new team, showcasing his talent and versatility on the field.
