Everton are on the verge of completing the signing of Ghanaian defender Jérôme Opoku from Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir, with negotiations said to be in their final stages.
The 26-year-old centre-back has emerged as a top target for the Premier League side following an impressive season in Turkey.
Club scouts from Everton have closely monitored his performances and have initiated concrete discussions with Basaksehir over a potential transfer.
According to reports from Africafoot, the Merseyside club has submitted an offer worth €4 million to secure Opoku’s services.
Talks between the two clubs are believed to have progressed significantly, with most key elements of the agreement already settled.
The transfer could be concluded before the end of the current campaign, and Opoku is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Toffees once the remaining details are ironed out.
Opoku has been a standout performer for Basaksehir this season, featuring in 43 matches across all competitions.
His contributions include two goals and three assists—numbers that have only heightened interest in the commanding defender.
Originally developed in England, Opoku is no stranger to British football.
He came through the ranks at Fulham before making a move to Plymouth Argyle, where he gained valuable experience.
His performances later earned him a transfer to Portuguese side Arouca, and in July 2024, he joined Basaksehir for €1.5 million.
Since then, his market value has steadily risen, with Transfermarkt currently estimating it at €3 million.
Though his current contract with Basaksehir runs until June 2027, the Turkish side appear open to letting him go for the right price, particularly given the interest from a Premier League outfit.
Opoku’s potential move marks a return to familiar territory, as he prepares for another spell in English football.
For Everton, the addition of an experienced and physically imposing defender could strengthen their back line ahead of next season.
Meanwhile, Everton are preparing to face Fulham in their upcoming Premier League fixture.
While betting odds list Fulham as favourites, Everton’s recent performances—and the potential signing of Opoku—could inject renewed optimism as the season nears its conclusion.
