German-born Ghanaian defender Derrick Kohn stole the spotlight in Werder Bremen’s 2-0 victory over St. Pauli in Bundesliga Round 14 at the Millerntor-Stadion.
Kohn opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a precise left-footed strike into the bottom right corner after a clever assist from Jens Stage. The 25-year-old’s impressive composure in front of goal complemented his solid defensive performance. He lasted 83 minutes, effectively stifling St. Pauli’s attacking threats.
Marvin Ducksch doubled Bremen’s lead in the 54th minute, firing a clinical shot into the bottom left corner after a well-timed pass from Mitchell Weiser. Despite St. Pauli dominating possession with 57% and registering 15 shots, their inability to convert big chances proved costly.
The result not only bolstered Bremen’s confidence but also extended their favorable head-to-head record against St. Pauli to six wins in 14 meetings. With this victory, Werder Bremen climb the Bundesliga standings, setting their sights on Union Berlin for their next fixture on December 21.
Kohn now boasts two goals in 12 league games this season, underlining his value at both ends of the pitch.
