German-born Ghanaian left-back Derrick Köhn is making waves at SV Werder Bremen, sparking speculation about a longer stay with the Bundesliga club.
The 25-year-old, on loan from Galatasaray Istanbul, played a pivotal role in Bremen’s dominant 4-1 victory over 1. FC Union Berlin, providing two assists that underlined his attacking prowess.
“I feel very comfortable here in Bremen – so yes,” Köhn told BILD when asked about extending his stay. Bremen reportedly has a €5 million purchase option in the loan agreement, a price tag Köhn is justifying with consistent performances. The dynamic defender has solidified his spot as a regular, featuring in 13 of 15 Bundesliga matches this season, contributing two goals and two assists.
While no concrete discussions about his future have occurred, his impressive form is expected to prompt talks soon, especially with Bremen finishing the 2024 football year in seventh place, just two points shy of Champions League contention. The second half of the season begins on January 12th, with Bremen facing RB Leipzig, where Köhn will look to continue proving his value.
