Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu has expressed his appreciation to Stade Rennais after securing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2029.
The 24-year-old, who joined Rennes from Clermont Foot, suffered a serious setback in November 2024 when he tore his cruciate ligament during a 1-0 league defeat to Lille.
The injury ruled him out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, but despite his absence, Rennes demonstrated their faith in him by offering an additional year on his contract.
Commitment Rewarded Despite Injury Setback
Seidu’s long-term extension highlights the club’s confidence in his abilities, and the Ghanaian international is eager to repay that trust once he returns to full fitness.
Speaking in an interview with Africafoot, the centre-back acknowledged Rennes’ support during his recovery.
“I am very happy to extend my contract with Stade Rennais because I feel at home here,” Seidu said. “This shows the great love and confidence they have in me.
For that, I will continue to work hard, come back stronger, and give my best on the pitch.”
The former Clermont Foot defender, currently valued at €9 million according to Transfermarkt, has pledged to make an impact when he resumes playing.
Progressing Towards a Return
Despite the long road to recovery, Seidu remains optimistic about his rehabilitation. He provided an encouraging update on his condition, revealing that he expects to be back on the pitch soon.
“My recovery is going well. The physiotherapist and fitness coach are doing a great job,” he explained. “I feel good about my knee, and I’ll be back on the field very soon.”
Rennes, currently navigating a competitive Ligue 1 campaign, will be eager to welcome Seidu back into the squad as they continue their push for European qualification.
An Important Figure for Club and Country
Beyond his club commitments, Seidu has also become a key figure for Ghana’s national team. The defender has earned 17 caps for the Black Stars and scored one international goal.
His return to action will be a significant boost for both Rennes and Ghana as he looks to rebuild momentum following his injury layoff.
With his future secured at Stade Rennais, Seidu now focuses on his comeback, aiming to repay the club’s faith with strong performances upon his return.
