Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has set a bold goal for his team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), insisting that their aim is not just to participate but to fight for the title.
Under Appiah’s leadership, Sudan has overcome significant challenges, including playing all their qualifiers away due to ongoing civil unrest, to secure a historic spot in Africa’s premier football competition.
The team’s qualification, which came at the expense of Appiah’s home country, Ghana, underscores the tactical brilliance of the former Black Stars captain and coach.
“The goal is not just to participate but to fight for the trophy,” Appiah told CAF.
“I believe with the right mentality, we can achieve it. There’s no point going to the competition if you don’t aim to win. We are going to Morocco with ambition and belief.”
Appiah has instilled confidence and resilience in a team that has become a symbol of hope for Sudan, a nation still recovering from the effects of civil war.
As Sudan prepares for their first AFCON appearance in decades, the team enters the competition with a renewed sense of ambition.
