Ghanaian club GoldStars sack coach Frimpong Manso after JS Kabylie defeat
Bibiani GoldStars have dismissed head coach Frimpong Manso following their 2-0 defeat to Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium, per local reports.
The Ghana Premier League champions are now racing to stabilise their camp before Sunday’s return leg in Algeria.
Assistant coach Nana Yaw Amankwah, who rejoined the club at the end of last season, has been appointed to oversee preparations and lead the team for the decisive second leg.
The announcement was delivered to the squad during Monday morning’s training session in Accra, with club insiders revealing it was a top-level management decision.
Multiple sources say the sudden dismissal has unsettled the dressing room, with both players and backroom staff reportedly stunned by the timing, just days before the trip to North Africa.
Manso, a former Ghana international, took charge of GoldStars two-and-a-half seasons ago at a time when the club was fighting relegation.
He steered them to safety and made history last season by clinching the Ghana Premier League title in only their third campaign in the top flight, a feat that earned the team continental football for the first time.
GoldStars began the new domestic season with a 2-1 win over Bechem United but stumbled in their continental debut against JS Kabylie.
