Ghana Women’s League: Joe Adarkwa steps down as Ampem Darkoa coach after nine successful years

Joe Nana Adarkwa has stepped down as head coach of Ghana Women’s Premier League side Ampem Darkoa Ladies after an illustrious nine-year tenure.

The experienced tactician has cited the need for a sabbatical as his reason for leaving, effective for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

Adarkwa transformed the fortunes of the “Nana Mma” club, leading them to unprecedented success. Under his guidance, Ampem Darkoa Ladies clinched back-to-back Women’s Premier League titles in 2022 and 2023.

He also delivered a Women’s FA Cup title, a gold medal at the WAFU Women’s Champions League, and a fourth-place finish in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Côte d’Ivoire.

In a heartfelt farewell letter, Adarkwa expressed gratitude to his players: “Your dedication, passion, and perseverance have inspired me every step of the way.

“I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together and the memories we’ve created. I’ll be cheering for each of you every step of the way.”

While Adarkwa’s next move remains undecided, he will now focus on his role with Ghana’s U-17 national team, where he recently led the Black Maidens to WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup glory.
