Ghana international Kamaldeen Sulemana has made it clear that his mission at Atalanta is to make a meaningful contribution to the team rather than serve as a replacement or backup for any player.
The 24-year-old winger joined the Serie A club this summer on a long-term deal from English Championship side Southampton.
His arrival comes amid speculation that he has been lined up as a successor to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, who is reportedly set for a move to Inter Milan.
However, speaking during Atalanta’s pre-season tour, Sulemana downplayed the comparisons and underlined his desire to learn and grow alongside his new teammates.
“I didn’t come here to replace anyone,” he told the media. “I came to play with whoever is here. I can learn a lot from Ademola; he has a lot to teach me.”
Sulemana emphasized that his focus is on earning his place and making a genuine impact at the Bergamo-based club.
“I’m here to contribute to the team, not to be someone’s substitute,” he added.
A product of Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy and a former standout at FC Nordsjælland and Stade Rennais, Sulemana is expected to play a pivotal role for Atalanta in the upcoming Serie A campaign.
