Ghana vs Tanzania Pink Ladies Cup final cancelled

The Pink Ladies Cup final between Ghana’s Black Queens and Tanzania, scheduled for Friday in the United Arab Emirates, has been officially cancelled due to escalating regional instability.

The decision follows a series of ballistic missile strikes that prompted the immediate closure of UAE airspace and the suspension of international flights.

Tournament organisers confirmed that the safety of players and officials remains the absolute priority as the security situation in the Gulf region remains unpredictable and fluid.

The Black Queens, along with 16 technical officials, are currently sheltering at their team hotel in Sharjah while awaiting a safe window for evacuation. This disruption follows the early withdrawal of Hong Kong earlier in the week, as several participating nations scrambled to exit the region.

Ghana had been the tournament’s standout performers, securing dominant 4-0 victories over both Hong Kong and Russia before the competition was halted.

Adding to the week’s footballing uncertainty, CAF has also confirmed the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, originally slated for this month. The continental tournament will now take place from 25 July to 16 August 2026.
