Ghana Black Queens thump Malawi 4-0 in final pre-WAFCON 2026 friendly

Doris Boaduwaa scored a superb hat-trick as Ghana’s Black Queens wrapped up their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with an impressive 4-0 victory over Malawi in Casablanca on Thursday.

The commanding victory extends Ghana’s unbeaten run in their pre-tournament friendlies and provides a timely confidence boost just two days before the Black Queens begin their continental campaign in Morocco.

Boaduwaa takes centre stage

Ghana made a fast start and needed only eight minutes to break the deadlock when Boaduwaa finished confidently to put the Black Queens ahead.

The forward continued to trouble Malawi’s defence and doubled Ghana’s advantage in the 37th minute, giving Kim Lars Björkegren’s side a comfortable lead heading into the interval.

Any hopes of a Malawian comeback were quickly extinguished after the restart, with Boaduwaa completing her hat-trick just two minutes into the second half to cap an outstanding individual display.

Sampson adds finishing touch

Ghana maintained control throughout the contest and added a fourth goal in the 74th minute when Sharon Sampson rounded off a well-worked team move with a composed finish.

The result completed an encouraging build-up to the tournament for the Black Queens, who remain unbeaten in their warm-up matches after defeating Ivory Coast, drawing 0-0 with Tanzania and now recording a convincing victory over Malawi.

Black Queens ready for continental challenge

The performance offers further encouragement for coach Kim Lars Björkegren as Ghana prepare for the start of the 2026 WAFCON on Saturday.

The Black Queens have been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde, where they will be aiming to make a strong return to Africa’s biggest women’s football tournament.
