Ghana international Mohammed and West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus is in contention for the FIFA Puskas Award.
Kudus’ sensational strike against Freiburg in the Europa League last season did not go unnoticed, earning him a Puskas award nomination ahead of FIFA awards.
The former Ajax star scored a solo goal in the quarterfinal of the Europa League last term, weaving his way through a pool of Freiburg players from his own half before firing home with his weaker foot.
The goal won West Ham United’s goal of the season, and he will now face competition from his peers from other clubs and countries for the top award.
Other African players on the list are Nigeria’s Paul Onauchu, Uganda’s Dennis Omedi, and Algeria’s Yassine Benzia.
Meanwhile, Manchester Unoited’s Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick against Everton has also been nominated for the top award.
Hassan Al Haydos of Qatar, Inter Milan’s Federico DiMarco, Terry Antonis of Australia, Walter Bou of Argentina, Michaell Chirinos of Honduras and Hull City’s Jaden Philogene complete the list.
The winner will be presented with the award at the FIFA Awards to be held in January 2025.
